Just when I thought my tomatoes were the best on the block…

Along comes my neighbor with this home grown monster.

According to legend (my neighbor is the stuff of legends), the ancestor plant of this fruit was brought from Greece in the 1960’s, and grown on the same plot of suburban Melbourne dirt ever since.

It was delicious to boot, a beefsteak tomato of the finest order.

Now here comes the best part – I saved the seeds while eating it, in preparation for growing my own next year. And the code in that history over 50 years old is now a part of my gardening journey.

What kind of seeds are you saving?

  1. Did you get some of the Italian parsley from the 1930’s from Jenny from the gardening club? I love that it’s now growing in my garden.

    1. Yes I did – one of them is growing with the three new apple trees. Looking forward to collecting seed from that one and spreading it about. How you doing anyway? I got chooks!!
