Just when I thought my tomatoes were the best on the block…
Along comes my neighbor with this home grown monster.
According to legend (my neighbor is the stuff of legends), the ancestor plant of this fruit was brought from Greece in the 1960′s, and grown on the same plot of suburban Melbourne dirt ever since.
It was delicious to boot, a beefsteak tomato of the finest order.
Now here comes the best part – I saved the seeds while eating it, in preparation for growing my own next year. And the code in that history over 50 years old is now a part of my gardening journey.
