7 Reasons Why You Should Consider Recycling

There are many areas of benefits due to the modern lifestyle, but there have also been many drawbacks.

A look at the landfills exposes how the present day consumer lifestyle has led to the accumulation of a lot of garbage which is choking the earth’s resources.

Thousands of products that have made life convenient come wrapped in a lot of packaging material that adds up to a lot of waste.

The waste is finding itself into our water sources and if not processed properly, it will end up doing irreversible damage to the environment.

Most packaging can be re-cycled to protect the environment too. Below are several benefits of recycling:

1 – Conservation

The earth’s resources are being depleted at a fast rate.

Recycling helps to conserve the limited resources, and this will help to ensure that coming generations can enjoy the same resources we have today.

Instead of depleting the trees and other natural resources, materials can be recycled and this can help to conserve energy.

2 – Income opportunity

Recycling has great benefits as it provides financial income for individuals, communities and corporations.

If you have things lying around the house that you are not using, you can make money by recycling them.Instead of throwing them out where they will end up in a dumpsite, you can find out companies that buy the items for recycling.

Communities and companies that recycle reduce costs of waste disposal. PDAs, cell phones and other items can be sent in for recycling, fetching quite a bit of money. Recycling aluminum cans can also be a valuable venture.

3 – Job creation

With a large number of people out of work, creating job opportunities is important.

Recycling waste creates far more jobs than land filling or incinerating the waste. It is estimated that 36 jobs are created to recycle 10,000 tons of waste – this is as compared to the one person it takes to incinerate the same amount of waste. With every new job created, there are benefits to families and to the country as a whole.

4 – Energy efficiency

When done on large scale, recycling can lead to a reduction in energy costs.

While the initial costs of recycling may seem high, when production is increased, the process becomes very cost effective.

It is more costly to produce one new aluminum can, than to recycle 20 of the same cans. The same energy the manufacturing company uses to create one can, can be used to recycle 20 and this brings down production costs. This is beneficial for both the company and the environment as a whole.

5 – Bringing communities together

Recycling can bring communities together as people rally to work together to make their communities better.

As more people become aware of the importance of protecting the environment, there has been a push toward coming together to create sustainable projects.

As communities work together, people are able to create important relationships that help to network and promote recycling.

Many organizations have started from community projects brought together by people concerned about the environment.

The projects offer information and help people to locate recycling centers in their location.

This green movement has led to an increase in awareness and education.

6 – Reducing toxic emissions

Landfills are full of solid waste that emits toxic chemicals.

Even with safety measures in place, the landfills always pose the danger of contamination of the air and water supply system.

Incineration or combustion leads to increased air pollution that is dangerous for those living in the vicinity.

Recycling can help to reduce these toxic emissions, leaving the air and the environment much safer.

7 – Building the economy

When the government is involved in recycling, the whole economy is impacted.

Recycling helps to create jobs, it reduces energy costs, and it leads to conservation or resources. All these factors have a huge impact on the national economy.

As the price of oil continues to bite, people have realized the importance of looking at alternative sources. By encouraging recycling, the government can help to ensure that an over-reliance on oil is reduced.

For recycling to be effective, everyone should play his or her role. This way of life is ideal for all. Everyone’s contribution is required and it helps to build a better society when everyone is involved. Protecting the environment is everyone’s responsibility as everyone benefits when the earth is protected.

Failure to do so will lead to a depletion of natural resources, which will eventually lead to global food shortages.

  1. All great reasons to make use of what we already have. Seems like mountains of our ‘stuff’ is just clogging up in cupboard and pantries, and over good land that we could use to grow food!
