I should have stopped by
well before these drifts of snow
before the drift of faded leaves
before the sun and heat baked those green bricks
I should have stopped by
when laughter warmed this home
your husband’s bellow seeping through the cracks
as deep and long as the harbour master’s horn
but it is all quiet now
just the sound of snow falling
and you looking at us from behind the glass
you must be
what else could there be for you to do
all alone
surrounded by cold empty streets
and neighbours like me
who should have stopped by
well before the snow
Beautiful and poignant piece.

We get so engrossed in our own lives at the expense of making time for others… Well expressed, Shane!
Yes we do. Sometimes need a moment to clear the head and go say hi to someone – SG

It is never too late. I think most important to visit those that can’t get out.

Spot on Kristen. It doesn’t take much to visit those in need, already desperate for companionship.
